How can something as simple as two colors be so important when it comes to planning a wedding? Well, maybe colors aren’t the most important thing, but the color scheme does set the tone for many aspects of the wedding — from linens to flowers to dresses to favors and more.

Here are some tips to help you choose a color scheme you will truly love!

1. Allow the venue to inspire you!

At Bellport Country Club, we have many settings that are perfect for your special day. If you choose to get married at our beachfront, perhaps calming blues and greens can be your color palette. If you select our grand ballroom, you may want to go more formal with black and white or gold and burgundy. We also have a rose garden alongside our outdoor patio that’s perfect for your wedding ceremony and the colors are spectacular!

Remember, even though our locations are all gorgeous in their own right, they are blank slates — waiting for your colorful creativity!

2. What season is it?

Black and white weddings are always in style! However, if you are looking to color it up a bit, consider the season. Dark colors, just like your wardrobe, often work better in the cooler months. A spring or summer wedding beckons for pastels or bright shades. If you like a particular color, pink for example, you can look at the various hues available and go lighter or darker depending on the venue and season.

3. What are your favorite colors?

Whose wedding is this? It’s yours! If you have a favorite color, that should be your go-to choice — as long as it fits the mood you are hoping to evoke. If you want a very elegant affair, hot pink may not work with your theme and scheme. Or, maybe it will! The choice is yours.

Another option for choosing colors is to consider other items you will include in your plan where color matters, such as flowers or dresses. If you love sunflowers, maybe they can help you choose your tones. If you find a bridesmaid’s dress that looks gorgeous in teal, that can be a starting point. Be open and don’t settle for any color that doesn’t make you happy.

Finally, relax. Wedding planning induces stress. But, we are talking about colors here. Don’t lose sight of that. It’s very easy to get focused on your colors and then you’ll be feeling a ton of pressure to make sure everything matches. Yes, your colors will help you make a lot of other decisions – again dresses, flowers, linens, etc. But there are plenty of hues of colors you can bring into the palette. Consult a color wheel!

Keep your desires for wedding tone and mood in mind when you make colorful choices. If you focus on theme and what makes you happy, all the items you choose will find their proper place and add wonder to your special day.
