Ahhhh…. The wedding cake! It’s a delicious way to “share your love” with your guests and it’s a wonderful way to show off your style — fancy, fun, traditional or funky! Perhaps you’ll have a great photo moment with cake smushing or maybe it will be a glorious cake-cutting image for the ages.
When you choose Bellport Country Club for your wedding venue, we provide the cake! We work with a local bakery called The Rolling Pin. A simple tiered cake is included with your wedding package.
So many questions and so many options! Here are some tips for choosing the perfect wedding cake.
1. Numbers matter. If you have a small crowd, you need a smaller cake. Same goes with a crowd of 200 – you need enough cake to feed them all! Also, think about the space where the reception is being held. If it’s a grand ballroom, you don’t want the cake to get lost — add extra tiers or columns to give the cake height.
2. You do YOU (and your partner, of course!) This is YOUR wedding cake. Choose the flavor and style the two of you want. If you grandma can’t have cherries and you have always wanted cherry filling, get grandma another dessert option. Make sure your cake fits your specifications, not just that of your guests. (Of course, there is a caveat here…you certainly want to please the crowd so if your particular tastes are very specific, perhaps you want to have a small couple’s cake and make the grand cake more traditional!)
3. Choose the cake after you’ve made other wedding decisions! The cake won’t be made until the last moment so you can delay your final selection until you make other important decisions such as location, color scheme, season and flower arrangements.
Last but certainly not least, choose a cake topper that truly represents you and your betrothed and makes sense for the wedding theme itself. Whether you choose something silly or elegant, it’s the first thing people will see when they look at the cake and you’ll have it for a momento forever!
